Summer Fiber Classes
Please scroll down this page to see the complete list of Summer Fiber classes for adults.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Did you notice a change in the fee for your class? To simplify our accounting and recordkeeping, we no longer charge separate studio and materials fees. The total price for your class did not increase but it might look like it did. In fact, the class will actually cost less if you are a member since we are now discounting the studio and materials fees in addition to the tuition discount. We will continue to charge the model fees separately and, since the summer camp catalog had gone to press when this decision was made, we will continue to charge materials fees for summer camp programs through the end of this summer.
10% Discount for First-time Students:
First-time students save 10% off the price of a class when they register for their first class at the Art Center. Discount does not apply toward Transportation, Firing, New Student Material, or Model fees; Summer Arts Camp; Birthday Parties; subsidized classes, and cannot be combined with any other offer.
Call 952.473.7361, ext. 16, if you have questions or to register for a class.

JAPANESE SHIBORI
Instructor: Karen Rognsvoog
Skill Level: All
Shibori is a Japanese term that means to bind, wrap, fold, twist, stitch or clamp to create a design on fabric. These techniques can be used separately or in combination to create patterns. By manipulating the fabric dye can only partially penetrate into tightly compressed cloth and will create subtle and intricate patterns within the folds.
You can never really control the process, so effects are often surprising and each piece of shibori is a work of art. Students will learn the five different techniques used in shibori designs. Natural plant dyes will be used exclusively as the only source of color. We will work with silk, cotton and lightweight wool. Enrollment limited to 7; ages 16 and up

Annie Kennedy
B.A. from Bethel College in Business. After exploring drawing, painting, wood carving, knitting crocheting and more, Annie Kennedy found her passion in rug hooking. She has been “hooking” since 2000 and has exhibited her rugs at the annual Rug Hooking Week at Sauder Village for the past five years. In addition to teaching rug hooking she has an on-line rug hooking business, AJ Creatives.
Karen Rognsvoog
Karen has been dyeing natural fibers and growing plants for dye since the mid-1970s. After some hands-on experience, she began teaching natural plant dyeing classes in schools and community centers in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and at the North House Folk School in Grand Marais, Minnesota. Karen is always on the lookout for new and interesting dye stuffs, so don’t follow her closely on the road, since she “brakes for roadside weeds!”
