Curious about printmaking? Try a printmaking sampler. The workshops will start with an instructor demonstration. Then students will have the chance to try the printmaking process. Learn to carve and print from linoleum plates in the Linocut Relief Sampler. Explore subtractive and additive inking techniques by rolling, painting, or removing ink from Plexiglas in the Monotype Sampler. You'll leave with a good understanding of the printmaking process and a desire to do more. Most materials included but a list of things to bring is on the website.

Have you ever looked at a vase and wanted to do more than plunk a bouquet of store bought flowers into it? This class will introduce you to the art of flower arranging by breaking down the arrangement into its basic structure: line, shape, color, balance, proportion and texture. Find out why "less is more" and how not to pillage your entire garden for a single bouquet. We will also discuss the use of non-floral elements. Bring one or two vases (can be glass, ceramic, or other material) and garden shears or hand pruner.

Learn to create a painting in one or two sittings using the alla prima (at first attempt or wet-on-wet) method with oil paints. This classic painting approach has been used by master artists including van Eyck, Velàzquez, Monet, and Van Gogh. The instructor will present principles of composition, value, color scheme, pigment application and control of the basic formal elements in the picture progression. If you like immediate results on the canvas, this workshop's for you. A materials list is on the website. Bring a lunch for the hour break.

Learn to make a delicate, yet easy to make beaded snowflake and then attach it to a 3-inch felted wool mitten ornament. Snowflakes can be made in several sizes and designs so that each one is unique! The beaded mittens make great winter wreath attachments, tree ornaments, or festive brooches. Beading materials included but a list of things to bring is on the website.

The building is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve through New Year's Day*, Memorial Day and the last week in August through Labor Day.* There is no open studio when the building is closed. 

 

* Phone lines will be open Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. to take class registrations.
