12-inches by 12-inches blending tone on tone color of quilters’ weight cotton fabric. No batiks. Avoid dark value fabric and large or small repetitive pattern fabric
Cut the “batting layer” (light colored flannel or thin cotton batting) 2-inches longer and wider than the fabric, 14-inches by 14-inches. Center the fabric on the “batting” for basting so that you have 1 extra inch of “batting” on all sides. Hand baste the two layers together, without a quilt backing. Baste in an approximate 3-inch grid.
Fabric and batting basted together as above
A few straight pins
Small sharp scissors or embroidery scissors
Paper scissors
6, 7, or 8-inch embroidery hoop
Glasses if needed for handwork
