Drawing Materials

  • Mechanical Pencil .05, 2H Lead (Optional)
  • Mechanical Pencil .05, 2B Lead (Optional)
  • Mechanical Pencil .05, HB Lead (Optional)
  • 2B Wood Pencil and/or additional hardness or softness
  • Assorted blending stumps
  • Papermate Tuff Stuff Eraser Stick (Optional)
  • Tombow MONO zero 2.3 round eraser in holder (Optional)
  • Magic Rub Eraser (Optional)
  • Kneaded Eraser
  • 1 sheet Bristol smooth finish paper (no plate or vellum)  (9×12 or slightly larger)
  • Newsprint
  • Tracing Paper (9×12) or slightly larger
  • Drawing Board (optional)
  • Artist’s low-tack tape

Painting Materials

  • 2 sheets (approximately 9″x12″), 140 lb Hot Press watercolor paper (I prefer Arches brand) You may prefer to use a watercolor block or pad
  • Professional Grade watercolor paint (I prefer Winsor Newton 5 ml size)
    • Colors
      • Cadmium Yellow Pale or Winsor Lemon or Hansa Yellow (cool)
      • Cadmium Yellow Deep (warm)
      • Aureolin (warm)
      • French Ultramarine Blue (cool)
      • Cobalt Blue
      • Alizarin Crimson or Quinacridone Rose(cool)
      • Cadmium Red Medium or Winsor Red (warm)
      • Paynes Gray or Warm Sepia
    • Round Brush #1, #4
    • Sturdy clean board or plexiglass to use as a painting surface
    • 2 small containers for water (clean cottage cheese or yogurt containers)
    • Small white plastic palette or plate for mixing colors
    • Paper towels
    • Scrap watercolor paper for testing colors/lead

  • Magnifying glass
  • Sketch pad for notes and sketches
  • Hairdryer (optional for painters)
