Basic Watercolor Supplies

  • Fresh raw umber paint (Winsor Newton works best)
  • Your watercolor palette
    • Non-staining colors work best for this process such as Winsor Newton:
      • Cobalt Blue
      • Cerulean Blue
      • French Ultramarine
      • Raw Sienna or Yellow Ochre
      • Burnt Sienna
      • Rose Madder Genuine
      • Indian Red
    • Feel free to test your existing colors to see which will lift best for you
  • Watercolor brushes
    • 1″ wash brush
    • Round brushes in various sizes
  • Water containers
  • Small sponge
  • Pencil and kneaded eraser
  • Spray bottle.
  • Support surface slightly larger than your paper
  • Masking tape

Papers

  • 2 quarter sheets of Arches 140# cold press paper (11 x15″)
  • Paper toweling.
    • Viva works best for strength, absorbency and smooth surface

Drawing Materials

  • A working image will be supplied for this workshop
  • If desired, bring Saral transfer paper to trace your image onto your watercolor paper.
